The 1-1/2 in. deep, 4 in. round steel box holds a 15.8 cu-in capacity and is supplied with two 1/2 in. knockouts for cable entry, keeping the drawn-steel construction light enough to handle on a ladder while still rated for real fixture weight. An up-front ground screw, #10-32 ceiling fan screws, #8-32 ceiling fixture mounting provisions, and complete mounting hardware and instructions all ship with the box, so no additional parts are needed on the job. The brace works for both old work remodels and new work installations, giving installers one box for either application rather than stocking two separate parts. cULus Listed and ceiling fan rated, the 936 supports 35 to 70 lb. ceiling fans and 50 to 110 lb. light fixtures, with exact capacity depending on joist span: up to 70 lb. for fans and 110 lb. for fixtures at 16 in. spacing, or 35 lb. and 50 lb. at 24 in. spacing. That range covers most residential ceiling fans and light fixtures without needing a separate structural brace, making it a straightforward retrofit for rooms that were never wired to support one.
