The blade edge is made of Japanese carbon steel and hand sharpened by Japanese craftsmen . It is sharp right out of the box , making a smooth silk surface to the wood.
*Blades need to be tuned before use. Japanese hammer GENNO (8-16 oz) or wooden mallet (36-55 mm) are recommended.
The blade edge (Japanese steel) is laminated by soft iron. The layered construction of the two steel materials increases blade durability and improves sharpening ease . This is the traditional structure of the Japanese-style blade.
KAKURI uses only natural white oak that has been carefully and naturally dried for around three years after logging. Excellent durability and comfort in your hand.
